What do you miss the most?

This blog is about POL SAMBOL and the likes of it. Everything uniquely Sri Lankan - the sights, sounds, flavor and redolence of what some of us call home. This Blog is for every Sri Lankan (or formerly Sri Lankan). This is a place to share your memories of "what you miss the most". If you have a moment to take a trip back in time to the old days or old Ceylon, look at your life today, and share your thoughts, this space is yours. Jaya Wewa !

Good to see you have started a virtual place for us to collaborate our thoughts and memories about the motherland.

I guess I miss the people most of all, I miss the uncles, aunts, cousins, friends, neighbours, the school girls in white uniforms etc. It is a strange feeling when you move your residence outside Sri Lanka and then when you go back to visit, the feeling you get when your flight touches down is unexplainable. The decisions in life we made have taken us to different parts of the world and only time will tell of what lies ahead but the wonderful memories of back home is still fresh in all our minds.

Good to hear from you guys. Well, I got an idea, I am going to make it my challenge to photograph what ever it is that you guys miss, and post it up for your viewing pleasure. Now, Aqif I'll try to find the pictures of the school girls in white uniform - I hope you understand that this sort of thing can get me into trouble. So anyway, watch out for the photo section, soon. And Zaqir here's the small leaf for you.

i miss the sea-side living. the temple on ibc road in wellawatte - lit up for vesak. green cabin bustling with tourists, i am now sadly one of those transient beings. royal bakery early in the morning. the fish market and the hindu temples before the early morning crowd runs through. the malu-paan man. walking down galle face with the hotel looming on one side. sunsets that can't be captured on film. st. bridgets convent - the high stained wall and the green against the starched white uniforms. the roundabout. the human traffic.

most of all, and unfortunately in my case, i miss the sounds and smells of my sri lanka. hard to capture and these days, lost in the chaos of life.

i do like your site though. it made me think of everything i loved about the short summers I spent in what i now believe was a mirage. my.colombo.
